From 1995-2001, Mehdi worked with Youngone – Seoul based world’s largest technical outerwear manufacturer in different capacities including as Special Assistant to the Chairman/ Dhaka Office In charge. He also worked as Youngone Country Representative for Nepal, based in Kathmandu (1999-2001).
Mehdi has been working as a Consultant to the Chairman of Youngone Corp after starting his own business. Youngone, the largest investor & employer at EPZs of Bangladesh, have more than 65,000 workforces in Bangladesh. Its customers include The North Face, Patagonia, Engelbert Strauss, Nike, Aigle, JackWolfskin, Burton, Timberland, Adidas, Columbia, Polo etc. The group with sales turnover around $ 2 billion, produces high-end apparels, sports shoes, materials and do retailing business in Korean domestic market. It is developing a private Export Processing Zone – KEPZ in Chittagong which upon completion is expected to employ more than 300,000 people in its facilities directly & indirectly
As a business analyst on garment business, Mehdi has hosted country’s first talk show namely “RMG: Past, Present & Future” on NTV. The concept, script and research – everything was done by Mehdi. After running 39 episodes on NTV, he hosted 17 episodes of “RMG TALK with Mehdi Mahbub” on Asian TV. All these programs have English sub-titles, considering the interest of foreign audience. He had completed the third sequel of the program named “RMG & Bangladesh” recently on Desh TV. Earlier, he has hosted a fortnightly TV program named “Bdjobs Business & Employment” on NTV and business talk show “Trade Talk” on RTV.
Mehdi writes articles for newspapers also as a freelancer. Mehdi Mahbub is an Honorary Media Consultant to country’s premier business daily, The Financial Express.
As a close associate of the garments business and industry, Mehdi maintains good relation with both Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers & exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Knit Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA). He is an Honorary Advisor to Exporters Association of Bangladesh (EAB). Mehdi also lectured at BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology as a visiting faculty for MBA program. Life Member of Old Faujian Association (fraternity organization of Faujdarhat Cadet College, country’s one of the most reputed institute), Mehdi is member of Kurmitola Golf Club, Cadet College Club, IBA Alumni Association, MBA Association.
Mehdi Mahbub, an MBA from Institute of Business Administration under University of Dhaka, is the CEO of BEST SOURCING that is specialized in business development, communication, PR & networking. Its core business involvements are in marketing and communication in the areas of readymade garment (RMG) sector.
During 2001-2006, Mehdi was the Country Manager of RVL Packaging which was later acquired by Avery Dennison; a US based Fortune 500 Company. Under his leadership Avery Dennison Bangladesh Ltd was set up at Dhaka Export Processing Zone. During 2006-07 while leading sales & marketing of SML, a HK based company; he helped it to be established at Dhaka EPZ.
Mehdi Muhbub works as a Marketing & Business Development Advisor to Montrims Limited, the largest trims manufacturer of Bangladesh.
Mehdi has worked with some of the most renowned global organizations for more than 20 years. During flood of 1988 as a volunteer, he joined Oxfam Dhaka and worked during post flood rehabilitation as well afterwards. He also worked as a Program Associate till 1994 including relief & rehabilitation works of the devastating cyclone,’91.
Bangladesh RMG Centre and a young group of professionals founded country’s first independent social media campaign on garments, RMG Bangladesh. It has now more than 1,21,000 followers from home and abroad. A news website named RMGBD.NET is founded by Mehdi and his team to facilitate garment industry related news and views. Recently, a Twitter account, RMG Bangladesh is initiated.
Mehdi has attended various international conferences i.e. World Bank Annual Meeting 1997 in HK. ASEAN-EU Business Conference held in Jakarta, The Economist Investment Opportunity in Dhaka and The Emerging East meeting held in Kolkata. He has visited many countries including Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany, Indonesia, Vietnam, Nepal, India, Philippines, Uzbekistan, Malaysia, Bhutan, Myanmar, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Mauritius etc.
As per the invitation of American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, Mehdi lectured on “Doing Business in Bangladesh and its Garments Industry”. Biz.HK later interviewed Mehdi and publishes an article. WGSN, renowned online business magazine from UK published “Sourcing Guide to Bangladesh” with the help of Mehdi and mentioned his company as a resourceful organization of Bangladesh. He has high degree of public relations and liaison contacts with various levels at government, defense forces, media, business community, NGOs etc.
