Mehdi Mahbub is a seasoned professional and business leader from Bangladesh with almost 30 years’ local and global work experiences. He is enriched with academic knowledge from country’s two most prominent centres of excellence – Institute of Business Administration under University of Dhaka and Faujdarhat Cadet College, Chittagong. Mehdi Mahbub has in-depth understanding on local and international business issues, public relations and business communications with specific expertise on sales, marketing and business development.
Mehdi Mahbub, as a business advisor, has long experience to work with Korean companies at home and abroad since 1995. He has great experience and understanding on Uzbekistan, a very prospective country of Central Asia that is rich in history, culture, tourism and business. He has visited Uzbekistan more than 25 times since 2011.
Mehdi Mahbub is well known for leading several knowledge-based initiatives, including “RMG Bangladesh”, the world’s largest social media initiative based on the apparel sector and “rmgbd”, the biggest news archive on Readymade Garment (RMG) business. Mehdi is also the editor of The Apparel Digest , Bangladesh’s premier professional magazine on textile, garments and fashion.
Recently, Mehdi Mahbub is appointed as the Official Representative of Uzbekbaliqsanoat (Uzbekistan Fisheries) in Bangladesh. He has been assigned to work in developing fisheries sector of Uzbekistan with the knowledge and experience of Bangladesh.

As a business developer, Mehdi Mahbub has helped various global companies to set up business operations in Bangladesh and elsewhere in the world.
As a result of being an alumni of Bangladesh’s leading institutes and due to his involvement with renowned companies throughout his career, Mehdi has an incredible and a diverse group of network in the private and public sector in Bangladesh and abroad.
Known for being a ‘Bangladesh specialist’, Mehdi has in-depth knowledge and understanding of the business sector and the rules and regulations of Bangladesh. He is very much well connected with leading professionals and business leaders as well as government bodies.
As a business analyst, Mehdi has hosted the country’s first and only exclusive TV talk show on Readymade Garment (RMG) sector where the concept, script and research were done by him. Mehdi was an Honorary Media Consultant to the country’s premier business daily, The Financial Express. He had brought out few special issues at The FE on “RMG & Textile” which was published in collaboration with Bangladesh RMG Centre.
Mehdi Mahbub, the passionate communicator by himself, has initiated Best Sourcing Communications– a 360 degree communication solutions provider in partnership with a few external experts focusing public relations, networking, business events & communications. Mehdi has a plan to establish BusinessMirror.TV, the first Global Online TV from Bangladesh, exclusively on business issues. A state of the art studio is in place. The objective of this initiative is to create a platform for businesses and professionals to develop a bridge that would promote, support and growth of business, economy and development of Bangladesh as well as its trading partners.
Mehdi and his team have been working to develop a unique business news portal (Business Dorpon) that intends to be the mirror of various types of business activities from Bangladesh. Under the leadership of Mehdi, another knowledge-based initiative on agriculture (krishidorpon.com) is under process to present the development of the agricultural sector of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh RMG Centre is a knowledge-based platform working in the Readymade Garment (RMG) industry, the lifeline of Bangladesh’s economy. The initiative provides several advisory and information related services to the mass population to help them understand this critical industry better. One of the project of Bangladesh RMG Centre, ‘RMG Bangladesh’, is the world’s largest social media initiative on the apparel sector, with over 300,000 followers from 90 countries. The platform is active on its website, rmgbd.net, Facebook and twitter. The Apparel Digest has been coming out monthly since September 2021.
Bangladesh Business Centre is a new initiative led by Mehdi, launched in the period of the covid-19 pandemic, when businesses all over the world were suffering. The platform primarily focuses on consultancy, business innovation, policy & strategy development, planning and human resource development and offers services to a wide range of businesses. Bangladesh Business Centre operates the site, ‘bizbd.net’ and the social media initiative, ‘Business Bangladesh’, which provides the users with a range of news related to the businesses in Bangladesh.

Official Representative in Bangladesh, Uzbekistan Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage

Uzbekistan is a country with rich history, culture and heritage which is historically and religiously bonded with Bangladesh, a country of 180 million predominantly Muslim population. Bangladeshis are religiously and emotionally connected with Uzbekistan, thanks to Muslim scholars like Al Bukhari, Al Tirmizi, Naxabandi and many others. Since Bangladesh (a part of India before partition) was under Mughal empire which was established by Timurid king Babur, a native from Farghana - historical bondage between both countries are strong. Gastronomical contact is also mentionable – Bangladesh’s most favorite food polao/ biriyani is rooted with Uzbek national food, plov. Uzbekistan government expects more Muslims visit Uzbekistan under its Ziyarot Tourism. Mehdi Mahbub has been appointed as the Official Representative by the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in Bangladesh to promote and develop tourism spheres in Uzbekistan.

Mehdi Mahbub has been appointed as an Advisor to Uzcharmsanoat to support this Uzbek government agency in bringing investment as well as development of leather and footwear sector of Uzbekistan.

Mehdi Mahbub has been advising Kido management to operate its latest manufacturing base at Adamjee EPZ in Bangladesh.

Mehdi Mahbub has been assigned by Textile and Garments Authority of Uzbekistan to perform the following functions as its Advisor:

Negotiating with global business representatives of commercial entities, public and private organizations from various textile and apparel bodies of Bangladesh and elsewhere in the world on the possibilities of developing business collaboration in Uzbekistan.

Assisting in attracting foreign investors and investments to Uzbekistan with the objective of transfer of knowledge to the promising areas of development in the textile and garment industry of Uzbekistan.

Supporting in finding experts from Bangladesh to work on local production mills in Uzbekistan and further assisting in the skill development and human resource training for the industry.

Supporting in promotion of Uzbekistan’s textile brands on the world market.

Mehdi Mahbub is also working to develop people to people relationship between Uzbekistan and Bangladesh in the areas of tourism, aviation, communication, agriculture etc. Under his initiative www.uzbangla.com website is developed that intends to contribute in strengthening understanding between two friendly countries which have strong connections by history, culture, religion etc.

Advisor, Exporters Association of Bangladesh (EAB)

Exporters Association of Bangladesh is an apex trade body for Bangladeshi exporters, incorporated by Bangladesh Government in order to formulate policy concerning export trade, oversee the challenges, monitor existing situation of export, seek government assistance for export trade, submit views for inclusion in the national budget, identify national and international barriers and suggest measures for addressing the bottlenecks & impediments for smooth & orderly running of the export trade of the country. As an Advisor to EAB, Mehdi Mahbub has been working closely with EAB board including its President, Mr Abdus Salam Murshedy MP.

Consultant, Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade (KIET)

Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade (KIET) is Korea’s most premium autonomous research center, affiliated with the National Research Council under government of Korea. KIET initiated in 2017 a study on Bangladesh’s southern part’s business and trade possibilities; Mehdi Mahbub’s Best Sourcing was the local consultants for the project.

Mehdi Mahbub has worked for more than 10 years as a Consultant to the Chairman of Youngone Corporation since 2007. As a Bangladesh Specialist and Business Researcher, Mehdi worked closely with Mr Kihak Sung, Chairman of Youngone and KEPZ Corporation who has become President of International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF). With Chairman Sung, Mehdi has worked extensively in different Youngone projects in Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Ethiopia and Vietnam along with Youngone Head Office in Seoul, Korea.

Lotte Engineering & Construction is Korea’s one of the largest business entity with global reputation and business services. As the Business Representative for Bangladesh, Mehdi provided valuable inputs and business data for Lotte to develop its business strategy for Bangladesh and South Asia region. He also assisted to connect with a few construction business scopes to Lotte E&C.

Country Manager, Avery Dennison

During 2001-2006, Mehdi was the Country Manager of RVL Packaging which was later acquired by Avery Dennison, a US-based Fortune 500 Company. Under his leadership, Avery Dennison Bangladesh Limited was established at Dhaka Export Processing Zone. Later it acquired Paxar Bangladesh.

Mehdi worked as a Marketing & Business Development Advisor to Montrims Limited, the largest trims manufacturing facility of Bangladesh.

1995 - 2001

Manager, Special Assistant and Country Representative, Youngone Corporation, Bangladesh & Nepal

From 1995-2001, Mehdi worked with Youngone – Seoul based world’s largest technical outerwear manufacturer in different capacities including as Special Assistant to the Chairman, Dhaka Office In charge. He also worked as Youngone Country Representative for Nepal, based in Kathmandu.

Volunteer/ Program Associate, Oxfam Dhaka

Mehdi has a great passion to work in the humanitarian field. During the devastating flood of 1988, as a student volunteer, Mehdi joined with UK based international charity, Oxfam. He continued to work on post-flood rehabilitation and other relief efforts of Oxfam. He also worked extensively during the Cyclone of 1991 and post-cyclone projects as a volunteer and program associate.

Mehdi has attended various international conferences i.e. World Bank Annual Meeting in Hong Kong, ASEAN-EU Business Conference held in Jakarta, The Economist Investment Opportunity in Dhaka, The Emerging East meeting in Kolkata, AmCham HK meeting on “Doing Business in Bangladesh”, Asia Clean Energy Forum meeting in Manila, ITMF Annual Conference in Bali, ACTIF Annual Conference in Madagascar etc.

He is still associated with various social development organizations.

 

Mehdi, a motivational speaker by passion, also lectured at various institutions in issues related to trade, commerce and communication. He has presented lectures and his ideas on different national and international events organized by various renowned bodies like American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, BGMEA, BKMEA, EAB, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF), Africa Cotton & Textile Industry Federation (ACTIF), Uzbekistan Textile Conference, Bangladesh Textile Conference etc.

Personal Life

Mehdi Mahbub was born on January 1st, 1969, as the youngest son of late Mahbub ul Huq and Latifa Huq. Mahbub ul Huq was a Calcutta University graduate who served in the government. Mehdi has a total of six siblings, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. All four brothers are alumni of the prestigious Faujdarhat Cadet College, a leading residential educational institute, being operated by Bangladesh Army. His eldest brother, Dr. Manzoor Mahbub is an urologist currently working in the United States. Mizanul Mahbub, his 2nd brother, was a successful architect who passed away in 1991, at a very young age. His another brother, Moinul Mahbub, is a naval officer turned Merchant Mariner currently based in Dhaka. Mehdi’s eldest sister, Sanzida, lives in Bangladesh with her family and his youngest sister, Sayeda, settles in the United States with her family.
Fahmina Hasin Naheed, Mehdi’s partner and wife, is the Head of English Department of the prestigious Holy Cross College, a very reputed missionary college in Dhaka. She is also leader of Holy Cross College Alumni Association. Their eldest son, Raiyaan Mahbub is a graduate of Economics and International Relations from the University of Melbourne, Australia. Their other son, Ridan Mehran Mahbub, is currently pursuing his bachelor’s in international economics from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Their youngest son, Affan Mahbub, is a student at the DPS STS School, Dhaka.
